In a small workshop on the outskirts of Nairobi, the sound of machines and the heat of a powder-coating oven tell the story of hard work and survival. For Alexander Muiruri, this space is more than a workshop, it is the foundation of his family’s livelihood and future.
“My family has benefited a lot from this business,” Alexander says, wiping his hands on a worn apron. “It paid my children’s school fees, including my last-born. Today, that same son is here beside me, learning the ropes.”
Alexander started his business in June 2014. Ten years later, he has built a loyal customer base, created jobs, and trained his son to eventually take over. In just six months, he can manage payments, source materials, and oversee the workers. “When I retire, my son will continue where I leave off,” he says proudly.
The journey hasn’t been easy. Like many small entrepreneurs, Alexander struggled with financing. High interest rates made expansion nearly impossible, until a chance encounter with a representative from his bank changed everything.
After a few visits and some paperwork, Alexander signed up for a credit line, powered by tabb, and secured flexible financing that enabled him to purchase materials on time and handle larger orders. With steady repayments, his credit limit is growing. “That means more orders, more efficiency, and growth,” he explains.
One of his biggest dreams is to upgrade his old powder-coating oven, which was imported from China years ago. A larger machine would cut costs and help him meet rising demand. With support from his bank , through tabb, that dream feels within reach.
For Alexander, success is measured not only in machines or margins, but in people: his family, whose education and livelihood the business sustains; his son, who will carry the work forward; and other entrepreneurs, whom he encourages to take the leap.

Alexander’s story is proof that success is not only about machines and margins, but about people, continuity, and growth. Entrepreneurs like him were born to build, and with tabb, they don’t build alone.
